Every Near-Miss Is a Player About to Walk. We Just Gave Operators a Way to Keep Them.

Introducing Play Insurance, powered by gripAI

Introducing Play Insurance, powered by gripAI — a new revenue stream that turns losing bets into loyalty.

Ask any sportsbook operator where they lose players, and it’s rarely the big loss. It’s the close one. The bet beaten by a single goal in stoppage time. The “so close” that turns into a closed app and a player who doesn’t come back.

That moment happens thousands of times a day across every book. Until now, it earned operators nothing and quietly cost them their players.

We set out to change that. Today, we’re excited to announce Play Insurance, powered by gripAI — a new product that lets your players protect their bets, get money back when they lose, and stay in the game. For operators, it’s a genuinely new revenue stream, built on technology no one else has.

What Play Insurance actually does

The idea is simple. When a player places a bet, they’re offered the chance to insure it for a small premium. If the bet wins, they collect as normal. If it loses, they get money back — scaled to how close they came to winning.

The closer the bet, the bigger the refund. Either way, the player walks away with something instead of nothing. And every premium is new revenue for you.

It’s a different kind of tool. A promotion gives money away to win loyalty. Play Insurance earns money while it builds loyalty, landing at the exact moment a player would otherwise churn.

How it works

The whole experience is built to be fast and frictionless:

  1. The player places a bet. Right after, they’re offered insurance on their slip.
  2. They insure it for a small premium — priced live by AI, per player, per bet. That premium is yours.
  3. If the bet loses, they’re paid back, with the refund scaled to how close it came. Then they stay in and bet again.

Behind that simplicity sits gripAI’s proprietary, patented engine — trained on over two billion bets, pricing every premium in real time from live odds, the number of selections, the player’s profile, and live match statistics. It’s precision pricing, not a flat, one-size cashback.

Why operators are paying attention

Play Insurance does three things at once, and it does them without asking you to give anything away:

It opens a new revenue stream. Premiums are new income on top of your existing handle. You set the margin on the pool, and the way the system settles means the operator cannot lose on it.

It stops churn where it starts. The losing bet is the moment players quit. Paying them back turns it into the next bet — and the early numbers back it up. In the pilot, 37% of players took the insurance offer, and 39% of insured players came back to bet again.

It sets your book apart. A “the house has your back” experience that competitors don’t offer, running on technology they can’t replicate. It even works alongside Cash Out — a player can cash out and keep their insurance in play.

Best of all, it stands on its own. Play Insurance is a standalone product that sits on top of whatever you already run, and it doesn’t replace a thing.

A partnership built to move fast

Bringing Play Insurance to market means combining two strengths: gripAI’s breakthrough insurance technology and LSports’ reach, data, and relationships across the global betting industry. Together, we’re putting a genuinely new category in front of the operators who can act on it fastest.

This is exactly the kind of innovation our partners ask us for — one that grows revenue and deepens engagement at the same time.

See it on your markets

The near-miss doesn’t have to be the moment you lose a player. It can be the moment you keep them, and earn from it.
